We are Apollo cycling group from Lurgan. This was the first sportive for our “women on wheels” group.
The girls started with no experience riding as a club with no miles and building the miles each week to complete the sportive.
We thoroughly enjoyed the route and the banter between us and other competitors. Great event, great laugh, great cycle and great tea and sandwiches to finish.
Firstly can I say what a very well-run event BTB was and special mention needs to go to Tommy and his team. A great route from Armagh, Aughnacloy, Augher, Fivemiletown, Emyvale, Glaslough, Caledon, and finally back to Armagh. Simply stunning countryside and looping back and forth over the Blackwater. Testing at times but enjoyable the rest. The water & food stops were perfect and plenty for all.
I came with Portadown Cycling Club and the members turned in force to support our Chairman Brian Ashton. We had nearly 40 members out on the two routes
Cycling is an inclusive event for all. When someone is in difficulties you don't ask what colour flag they follow. You stop and provide assistance as you would hope would be reciprocated to you if you were in trouble. So it without question cycling brings people together from all walks of life and political opinion.
We meet some old friends and made some new ones. A great day was had by all and the weather was class.
Thank you for providing the financial assistance to make this work and Tommy for bringing it all together. To the next time!
I cycled the event to mark my last weekend of my 30's... I turned 40 today.
I'm not with a cycling group & usually go out on the road myself and do 50 - 65km. It was great getting to cycle together with a group and on roads not overall far from me.
The route was well chosen, enough to test you & enjoy it, all junctions marshaled and group leaders looked after us, and lovely refreshments on arrival back at the Navan Centre, really enjoyed my day and appreciate the opportunity & experience I had.
I don’t have any photos from the day but I can say that I enjoyed the cycle very much and having traveled alone I was made feel more than welcome by both the organisers and participants alike.
The refreshments in the visitor centre really finished off a very enjoyable morning with good cycling and great company, I do hope it will be an annual event.
Many thanks for Sunday it was brilliant. The food and drink stops were fantastic. The route was amazing, great to cycle the new road and the weather even turned out ok.
Many thanks Paul, Armagh Down Cycling Club.
Because of work Covid Restrictions I am unable to mingle with groups outside of work, so I had to do the Bike the Blackwater on my own.
I did not stop to take photos of the journey but I really enjoyed this particular route as it was new to me having done the event in previous years, it is a great event please keep it a yearly event.
Just to say this was my first Sportive and although it was tough going I really enjoyed it! It was great to meet different clubs, especially other cyclists who started off as Women on Wheels too.
Everyone was so friendly, the event was really well organised and felt really safe on the roads and the lunch provided at the end was very much appreciated. Thank you!
