The Route
The route is designed to give you a flavour of the Blackwater Region and showcase its attractions, scenery and fantastic cycling terrain.
Blessingbourne Estate
Kicking the event off with the 'Estates' theme at Blessingbourne we then go from Fivemiletown and gently ease you into the first climb of the day - over Sliabh Beagh. A steady ascent to around 250m takes you through the Mullaghfad Forest and into County Monaghan . The road narrows on the mountain and the surface may be loose but offers some spectacular views down through the valley.
We pick up the source of the Blackwater on the descent at Scotstown and follow its course toward Glaslough and Castle Leslie.

Castle Leslie
We have been given special access to Castle Leslie Estate in Glaslough. This has been the family home to the Leslie's for almost 400 years and has grabbed quite a few headlines in recent years. Some terrain in the castle grounds isn't ideal for cycling so you may have to dismount at various points for safety purposes. Still this should be worth getting out of the saddle for , plus you can grab a bit of water while you're there.
Caledon Estate
As with Castle Leslie, we have been granted permission to enter the Caledon Estate, this is usually open to the public only once every year - so it's an opportunity not to be missed.
Favour Royal & The Clogher Valley
The ancient estate at Favour Royal is the final chance to take on some water before heading into the Clogher Valley and a chance to stretch the legs on a final few climbs to the finish. The route picks up the Carleton Train for 5-6 miles on the final run into Blessingbourne.
Finish at Blessingbourne
A gentle descent brings you back to finish line - tea and coffee is available and a chance to pick up your finishing medal and
